Wisteria - need to buy online. What should I look for?

I would like to buy a Wisteria plant as a housewarming present. I don't have any so don't know what I should be looking for.

After a brief search I can see lilac, blue and white. Hardy is also an option which I'm assuming it would need to be in the North East. Not sure which way it would be facing.

Does anyone have Wisteria buying experience and can tell me what I should be looking for?

My non-expert understanding is that it's quite tricky to establish. You need to do quite a bit of training at the start to get it to go on the desired wall or fence. The RHS website has some info www.rhs.org.uk/plants/wisteria

Off the top of my jeans, ypu need one that's grafted and is inflower when you buy it. If it isn't flowering at this time of year then it might not be a plant that ever flowers.

Thanks everyone, I found one that is 75cm and guaranteed to flower this year. So it must be established. Most if them were 15cm which seemed incredibly small. Went for Amethyst Falls as its compact and suitable for our climate.
I found it in Oneclickplants. I looked for a grafted one but some of the prices were sky high.

Too late but there are great healthy trained plants at Bargain Madness of all places!

Silverstreaks · 22/05/2022 09:46

Razbitso I hadn't even thought of there. I'll have a look for me when I go into town later.

Thanks for the website recommendation. I looked it up Blush it's very well priced! Do you just start training it as soon as it's planted?

Amethyst falls are currently being sold at Aldi, £15. I bought a white wisteria from there last year and it's doing brilliantly!

posalie · 22/05/2022 19:18

ah our local aldi doesn't do plants. Or do you buy them online?

NorthernChinchilla · 22/05/2022 19:21

Not sure if you can get them from Aldi online, worth checking...
Our local one is quite diddy and still does plants, hadn't realised some didn't
