Squirrels!!!

Has anyone got any tips for preventing squirrels digging up the plants in my newly planted pots? It's happening on a very regular basis. I've sprinkled the soil with garlic, hot chilli powder, curry powder etc but nothing seems to deter them unfortunately.

I put a layer of grit or fine gravel on the top of mine. I read somewhere that if they can’t see or smell the compost then they don’t dig. It’s not 100% but has massively reduced the digging.

Seems counterproductive but I bought a squirrel feeder and started putting nuts out. They do still dig in plant pots a little bit and hide nuts in there but quite half-heartedly and nothing is ever dug up or damaged. I love watching them.
