Bark chips(Lidl in particular) as mulch yay/nay( chemical smell)

Have bought some bark chips as mulch from Lidl. There is a v strong chemical smell from the bags. Read a thing online re chemicals in bark killing off plants but I thought bark mulch was recommended. Before I start to apply liberally apply what are thoughts regarding bark as mulch. Has anybody used Lidl?

I bought some two years ago, all fine. It smelt funny for a day or two, but that went. It has lasted very well and no issues with any of the plants.

I use it too, no problem so far. I know what you mean re the smell, stinks my car out on the way home.
