Big pile of sawdust - can I put this on our compost heap?

Tree surgeon has just been to grind down a tree stump and has left us with a big pile of sawdust. Can I put it on our compost heap, or will it take ages to rot down? Would it be better to use it as a mulch in the spring?

I would use it as a mulch, I do that on our allotment and it helps to break up the soil. lucky you!

You can put it in compost heap but if you do mix it up with other contents.
