Trellis in veg patch

I've just put up a trellis at the end of my veg patch to hide the compost bin at the end. It's a North facing trellis. I'd ideally like something to cover it all year so evergreen or at least dense-ish branches. Also as its in the veg bed it would be good if it was something edible. Don't think fruit would ripen because north facing. I'm completely out of ideas. Anyone any thoughts? Thanks.

I would think gooseberries, morello cherry and possibly currants would all do okay north facing

You could tie some kale up it? Otherwise I'd go for something evergreen at the back & add veg at front-peas & beans? We have obelisks on our veg beds & they're a bit bare in winter but still look nice-you could attach some hanging pots of trailing ivy to the top for evergreen too.

Evergreen - try a hardy passion flower. Dense branches, Actinidia (kiwi fruit) or train a fig to it.

If it’s north facing presumably the compost bin is to the south so it’ll get some sun coming over the top of the compost bin?

Thanks everyone. I really like these ideas - particularly currants, kiwi, fig, kale. I bought some kale seeds yesterday - never grown it before so not sure how tall it will be.
I have already identified another corner of the garden for an evergreen passionflower - excited about that (the bare bit of fence I'm sitting looking at now).
Yes the compost bin is south of the trellis and sun does come over it to a point, but also the shed is behind the compost bin and to be honest I can't remember now how high the sun is in the summer and therefore how much will still be in shade in the summer.
