Will these seedlings be ok in unheated greenhouse/cold frame?

I started growing chillis on my windowsill in Feb as was desperate to start growing something, anything. I now have some decent seedlings so just transplanted them into single pots and put them in the unheated mini greenhouse. Its glorious here today (16C), so I got a bit overenthusiastic - am now wondering that if the cold nights are going to kill them off? I think its forecast to be 2C for the next few nights. Will they make it or should I move them back indoors somewhere? Photo for size ref. Thanks for any advice!

I'd keep them indoors - chillies need warmth. Mine lived indoors until high summer last year and only when they were very well grown and all risk of frost had passed did I put them outside on my sun trap patio.

I think they'll be fine.

They will get more light during the day in the greenhouse, and the weather is due to be warm & sunny so the temperature should not drop too much in the greenhouse.

I'm moving mine from windowsill to greenhouse tomorrow.

@RatherBeRiding damn, I was afraid that might be the answer - not sure I've room for them indoors! Oh well, will move half indoors then and the rest can take their chances outside. Thanks for the reply

@Tulipomania that's what I thought but its forecast to get down to 1C tonight so definitely pretty chilly. I've brought half in, will be able to see which do best and if the ones outside survive or not.

THanks both for the advice.

I’ve still got mine in the house because my greenhouse is unheated. If you need to leave them out there have you got anything you can cover them with? Even a plastic food container or tray would keep some of the cold off.

@gardeninggirl14 if you're doing an experiment and leaving half in unheated greenhouse please let us know how they go! Mine will probably stay in the house until night time temperatures even out a bit (April/May)

gardeninggirl14 · 20/03/2022 16:52

@PoseyFlump I have two trays and have left one outside in the growhouse, so sure -- will let you know if they make it!

I'm in the South West of France, and no way would I leave chillis outside for another month...and our last frost date is a good month before the UK's.

Go bring them in! You must have some space they can go at night.

@gardeninggirl14 I love an experiment! I always keep notes of when I sow stuff etc so I can use the info for next year. I didn't harden anything off 'properly' last year either and they all survived. I just waited for night temps not to dip too much!
