Polishing or making silver the metal on a grave marker

Apols for placing this question here - I did a search but it's not right for the 'Bereavement' section, and I couldn't find a section on 'Funerals'...

I took my mother's grave marker to polish the wood, which has now been done. However, efforts to polish the metal plate on it have gone wrong. Someone at the cemetery recommended 'Brasso' - do not do this, it removes the silver sheen, as you can see in the picture. Someone else, the guy who polished the wood, also seems to have attempted this. I assume there's no way of polishing back what now appears to have been stripped off, so has anyone any recommendations?

Is there somewhere I can take it where they can restore it, put the silver back on the plate, or is the only option to have it completed redone, which I don't want to do? Of course, whatever advice would also work for similar metal plates on driveways or near front doors.

If the mods want to relocate this post to a more appropriate forum, that's fine with me...

You may be able to replace it at home to an acceptable standard given that it's not going to get wear and tear.
