First of all I'm not a gardener however my lovely neighbor is and I'd like to purchase a gift maybe bulbs for her garden, is this the right time of year to plant bulbs and could anyone recommend what bulbs I could buy from local garden centre at this time of year? Thanks in advance.

No. Bulbs should all be in the ground now ( for spring) our local garden centre has sold them all off cheap

You may find some places have summer bulbs in though. Might be a bit early though

They make a lovely gift

You can still plant tulips now.

I work in a garden centre and we've virtually nothing left now and selling it off mega cheap. And I've just finished putting my tulips in last week (a little later than I'd like but had to prioritise the other paid gardening first)

A voucher so they can choose something, or head to your garden centre and see if they have ready potted bulbs for sale e.g. Scilla, Chinodoxa, dwarf tulips- we've had those in a week or two now and they're starting to come through

Some nice potted narcissi, preferably scented if you can find them. A real treat!

This. Paperwhites are wonderful.

You could buy bulbs which can be enjoyed in pots this year and planted out for future years. Chionodoxa, Scilla, Crocus, snowdrop etc

Sarah Raven have ready potted indoor hyacinths. That can put them in the garden after flowering.

Asda and Morrisons, lydl and Aldi have potted plants that can go outside or inside. I love Aldi and Lidl cyclamen . Ready potted and they last for months.
