Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my rosemary?

I've had it for about 7 years and it had grown very well and needed no care whatsoever. I've basically ignored it for most of that time

In May though I cut it back by about a third (for the first time) as it was getting too big for the flower bed it is in!

In the last couple of weeks I've noticed it is not happy. Although the top still looks OK and green, lower down on the branches the leaves are brown an look like they are dying. Now a couple of entire branches look like they are brown and dying.

I have no idea what the problem is. Does anyone know if I can save this and if so how?

I hope it is not the fact that I cut it back wrong but it might be I suppose. Aghhh I am beginning to dislike gardening . I really thought this was one of my success stories but maybe it only did ok because I did nothing to it for ages

I used to have a rosemary hedge in my previous house. Rosemary seems to have a life span and a part of the hedge would suddenly die. I’d cut out the brown parts and see if it rejuvenates but if it didn’t I would replace that part with another Rosemary plant.

Yours still has a lot of life in it, but I know cutting out the brown parts would mis shapen the bush, it’s just the way Rosemary goes I’m afraid.

Occasionally rosemary sheds branches like this, it's a normal reaction to heat stress, lots of trees and shrubs do it.

Remove the offending branches, and give it a liquid feed of seaweed fertiliser. Check also that it doesn't have scale insects, and if it does, then you can use a 'fruit and veg' bug killer on it, one that's marked safe for edible plants.
