Black berries

Our black Berry bush took off massively this year, we have well over a thousand blackberries!
Other than making pies and crumbles what else can I do with them please? 😂 We are over run with them!

Because you need fingertips to gauge ripeness and lick carefully (well I do) but the rest of your hand as you dig deep into the hedges. Told you I was quite obsessed !

Aah, that makes sense. This year I discovered close fitting gardening gloves with plastic/rubber fingers that work much better than the baggy cotton type, although thorns do go through them I discovered this weekend.

They do. I use the same type and cut thumb and two fingers. Still get some scratches and spikes. Worth every moment. I’m deffo getting the itch to do a huge session !

Do you live in a nice area and get people passing by? If so id be tempted to unlock the gate and put a little notice outside inviting pickers

They freeze well. I like to defrost a handful each day to put on my muesli.

Blackberry mousse and ice cream also fabulous.

Very envious - ours have been awful this year as the blossom was hit by late frosts.

My remote walks have been interesting. The usual south west facing hedges/lanes which most years produce the sweetest berrries are very mixed and I had some good picking in areas usually pretty hopeless. It’s been clear this year has been rather different.

Smoothies with bramble, apple and beetroot are great.
