Spring bulbs sprouting again?

I have a wooden planter that has, amongst other things, some muscari in, I noticed last week that the bottom had dropped off so planned to empty it today for DH to fix. They have started sprouting again -any ideas why?

I’d guess (assuming that you’re in England) they’re a little confused by the wildly fluctuating temperatures and rainfall we’ve had this year.

NoSquirrels · 24/08/2021 10:19

My muscari are coming up too! Naturalised for several years - I assume they know what they’re doing.

SomeLikeItTepid · 24/08/2021 10:24

My Muscari are behaving in exactly the same way.

LadyFannyButton · 24/08/2021 13:11

So strange, they’ve never done it before. Wonder how they will behave in spring after a late flowering?

Everything else -eg. dahlia, corn-seems to be really slow & are far smaller (& behind) than they should be.

I didn’t think the weather had been that unusual where we are but maybe I’ve just not really noticed.

Autumn is the normal time of year for spring bulbs to start shooting. Yours are a wee bit early, that’s all

It’s the muscari. Mine sprout leaves in the autumn the flowers will follow in the spring.

I thought it had its seasoned mused a little as well. A neighbour has a beautiful, big Magnolia and that's currently flowering fir a second time this year.

BaronessBomburst · 28/08/2021 00:11

Mine are coming up too! I was weeding the front border yesterday and nearly ripped them out as I thought they must be grass. Then thought, hang on, that's where all my clumps of bulbs are.......
I'm in the Netherlands, so it's not just the UK.

Some daffodils are coming through here (Yorkshire). The winter will be a bit of a shock for them.

My magnolia has buds on it, second time this year.

They always come through in the autumn, though that seems about 6 weeks early. I have to be careful about mowing the lawn late in the season because it the daffodils coming through. Also Yorkshire
