Hundreds of slugs on our lawn!

My Dh just called me to look at our lawn at 11pm. There are hundreds of slugs all over it and they are all over three inches long. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Apart from feeling it’s totally yuk I’m worried about our dog.

Do we need to do something?

@gardeninggirl68

beer in a glass....will fill up quickly as they fall in and can't gt out.....you'll likely need a bucket or 3.....i'm not going out to look at our lawn.
Thanks we’ve done this two nights now and can’t believe how many ended up in the drink. I think we are going to have to look at getting something we can apply to the lawn. I remember we used to apply something to the soil at our allotment years ago so will research that. Fortunately the dog is not interested and protected from Lungworm.

Pair of gloves, bucket and go out and collect them. Dump them in a wooded area or by a duck pond at least quarter of a mile away.
Repeat for three nights.

I use to have this. Too much undergrowth in the untamed garden for them to hide.

Three years in, the problem is significantly reduced. There are some plants that still get very badly attacked, but after a massive programme of collecting them, chucking them, sometimes bashing them in fury, encouraging frogs and finally a hedgehog (yay!) to sometimes visit, the hundreds that used to March across our lawn have been largely beaten back!

It's tempting. But try not to use poison if you possibly can, there are so many alternatives now.
