Help my clematis montana new shoots are dying off

Think the rest of it is ok. Was doing so well.😩

Clematis wilt? Leaves turn brownish purple and the stem dies. It doesn’t usually kill the plant, but cut cut it all out, it’s a fungal problem.

I think it’s too healthy for that iykwim. Or maybe not.It’s the brand new shoots. Wondering if I over watered in the dry spell( a whole bucket full) followed by the rain or if the dry spell killed off those shoots. Or am I trying to tell myself all ok.😩

Actually now wondering if it was the wind. Clutches straw even more.

My Princess Diana clematis has suddenly turned brown. I suspect clematis wilt, absolutely exasperating because it’s flowered the best ever this year.
Yours could be wind damage or snails chewing through stems - the buggers climb the walls for mine 😡

Clematis Montana should be pruned hard after flowering. If it were mine I wold prune it back to about 12 to 16 inches. It will grow rapidly and you will need to tie it in. Early next spring give it a tomato feed

It’s quite new. We only planted it this spring so hasn’t flowered for us yet. Was growing well until last week but wondering if it’s because flowering/ growing season over or weather?🤷‍♀️

The species clematis are less likely to be affected by wilt than the big flowered types. Have a close look at the wilted tips and see if you can see any slug damage

Clematis Montana flowers in May so you have missed this years.
