Recently planted lavender has gone all crap and woody

Hi all, I planted a couple of varieties of lavender about two months ago. A couple of the plants are still doing well (Melissa lilac, I think?) but the rest of it has turned fully brown and woody. Every single stem is brown and grim. Advice please!

Should add that it’s planted in a sunny spot and gets lots of water.

It might be too sunny? My lavender is in a huge planter at the front of the house. It gets full sun from sunrise to about 11 am and then it's in the shade. It comes back year after year and I don't fuss over it (because I'm crap at gardening)

Lots of water might be the problem!
When it comes to lavender treat it mean and keep it keen.
Try not watering it so often?
Also can take 2 years for a plant to establish itself.

Gingerwarthog · 18/07/2021 20:37

Is it in a planter?

Lavenderpillow · 18/07/2021 21:10

No it’s in the soil. We did have a really wet June and a lot of my plants were very unhappy. Perhaps that played a part?

Yes I reckon that might have been the problem?

burritofan · 18/07/2021 21:26

Lavender isn’t keen on boggy soil, wet roots, damp, etc. Crap, dry, rocky soil is your friend

Yes it is Mediterranean and does well in sunny, dry conditions - no soggy heavy soil

Lavenderpillow · 18/07/2021 21:39

Shall I pull the woody crap ones out?

Yes - prune it back.
