We've had a bay tree for a few years now and it's tripled in size so we are proud of it! Today I've noticed it's being munched by something Shock

Please can anyone tell me how to stop this and what it is? I'd be grateful

Thanks

Looks like leaf cutter bee to me. They are doing the same to my plants at the moment Grin

Given the shape of the holes it's the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It's not behaving like it has pests. aphids are suckers aren't they? You could try hosing it down just in case or wiping each leaf with alcohol. Give it a good prune anyway.

Maybe give it a drink, looks a bit dry

Mine has some leaves that look similar. I've never seen any pests on it but half the leaves in a packet of dried bag leaves look similar so I assumed it was just a bay leaf thing that can't be helped.

It certainly does look like the very hungry caterpillar!

Thanks for the responses. Leaf cutter bee sounds interesting.

I'll take all advice so I'll give it a good drink (I know it looks dry but I do water regularly but it can have a good soak today) and I'll give it a wipe and a prune

@FlossyTeacakes That is vine weevil damage. Horrible things, and the holes in the leaves are distinctive. You can buy vine weevil killer which you water in. The grubs eat the roots and the adult weevils crawl about and eat leaves, so you might need to treat the surrounding plants as well.

Leaf cutter bees cut out perfect semicircles, so I don't think it is those.

@yamadori I've ordered some stuff from Amazon to zap them if that's what they are. I don't want them wrecking my lovely bay tree so I'll be on it tomorrow

I REALLY wanted it to be the charming sounding leaf cutter bees!!
