I’d love to grow these little daisy like plants on my steps. Has anyone done this, how did you do it.

Thompson and Morgan sell multipacks of Erigeron plugs. I tried it last summer but then we had a really harsh winter and non of them came back, but I will try again.

Thanks, I’ve became a bit obsessed, I will give them a go.

A friend has given me a few starters, her garden is full of them. They’re one of those plants that only grows where it’s happy. Mostly in cracks where you couldn’t possibly plant it.
I have Cerastium ( snow in summer) doing the same thing.

Thanks, I’ve ordered 30 from T&M hopefully by next year I can post a fabulous picture♥️♥️

I’ve grown some from seed this year. And been given some more established plants.

The ones in my wall are doing great, but not so sure about the ones in my steps. What I have done is planted some near the steps too and am hoping the might self seed. I think once you have them established you should’ve have to worry about them ever again.

I love them. Waiting for years and they finally came! Must have self seeded from somewhere. Check if they’re a plant you can take cuttings from. Might be more successful

NecklessMumster · 25/06/2021 17:39

I couldn't get them to take so I ended up planting them up in a big container where they do come back each year, and hoping they'll eventually self seed somewhere

I have no steps, but do have some in a pot, and have had one or two self seeded plants appear. So I'd definitely try having some in pots as well as planting.

Good luck - they really can look lovely, there's a fine example at Sizergh Castle in Cumbria for instance.

I’ve planted lots of plug plants of it in different places round the garden…near steps and walls. Hoping some of them will be happy and self seed.

TonTonMacoute · 26/06/2021 10:01

My dad has them all over his garden and he gave me a pot of them, it has taken a couple of years but they are now popping up all around the place (including on my steps, yay!)

They really do decide where they want to grow though and they can travel huge distances, you just have to leave them to it and hope they choose at least some of the places you want them to grow.

You need that most vital of gardening resources - patience!

Letsrunabath · 26/06/2021 10:39

I live near Sizergh Castle so hopefully have the right conditions.

Ime (se, fairly sheltered) they self seed freely in tiny cracks in my paving. Good luck!
