I am about to plant a Queen of Sweden rose & have Geranium Rozanne & 2 salvias to underplant

The rose is on a side border and I have no clue how big the salvias will get or how quickly the geranium will spread.

Do I plant a salvia either side of the geranium or put the salvias together for best impact? Or put the Salvias behind the gereanium?

Confused

The geranium is currently tiny - I bought it online as a young plant last year and never got round to planting it out.

Oh, the salvias only say 45cm height. 30cm spread.

They are salvia farinacea. I've never grown salvias before and just picked a few up from the supermarket.

Is your other planting quite informal or formal? If generally informal I would plant the salvias together on one side and the geranium on the other (and maybe slightly further forward). If your planting is generally more formal and matching I would plant a salvia either side and the geranium in front.

Personally I would plant the salvias together, but I like very informal, higgledy-piggledy planting.

Yes it's not very formal. If by "not very formal" you mean a bit of a wild mess and not like the planting on a roundabout! Grin It's definitely not matching! I've just spent a backbreaking 3 hours trying to get rid of the St John's Wort that has run wild along the border. I hate the stuff. I had euphorbia there too which looked quite good but which we just didn't have time to keep on top of so I've taken most of it out (I know it'll reappear anyway again next year).

Thanks. I'll plant the salvias together and the geraniums on the other side.
