Evergreen shrub to grow with roses

I want to fill my front garden with roses (Munstead Wood and another colour) but also planning to include evergreen shrubs for interest during the winter months. I thought adding some box balls would be good, but I’d like something else too.

Could anyone suggest a shrub that would go nicely with roses?

Not a shrub, but could grow a clematis armandii with them as an evergreen climber. Alongside my roses I’ve got a Nandina, sarcococa which is winter flowering and smells lovely and evergreen azaleas, which obviously depends on acid soil.

Different coloured small hebes are evergreen and would contrast with the green of box balls.

I would plant Cornus midwinter fire. Pretty white flowers before the roses bloom, then striking scarlet stems through winter,

Thank you all for your suggestions! Had a trawl through Crocus and also found choisya and pittosporum as contenders.
