I have a year old rose bush producing some strange flowers. Is there a problem with the bush, has anyone seen this before?
It produced beautiful blooms last year.

It might be fascination, where more than one bud is kind of fused together.

I agree, fasciation www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=525

It's odd but beautiful!

Sorry, just realised that auto corrected to fascination!

It seems early to be producing any flowers. One of the causes of fasciation is frost damage, maybe the cold snap weirded it?

I was going to say that the mixed weather conditions and especially the late frosts combined with some hot spells may have had an impact.

It's not actually fasciation, which applies specifically to a condition where the stem becomes flattened and widened, so you get a sort of crest-like flower. Your flowers seem to be almost perfectly circular still. But it looks to be something similar. I'd guess physical damage, eg frost.

I've just found what may be a strange poppy in my garden - perennial orange one.... there's a head just about to burst out but it's got essentially no stem. I'll assume the warm followed by frost weirded that too.

Yes they are circular, the biggest one has been there a few weeks and I just noticed the smaller two recently. I probably should have protected them with fleece but I thought they would be ok. Hopefully the rest of the buds will develop normally.
