Re-starting dahlia tubers

I have some dahlia tubers in storage in an unheated garage, and thinking I need to get them out now. I have a cold frame but it's pretty full already and will soon be needed to harden off my indoor veg seedlings, so I'm wondering whether the dahlias will be ok if I put their pots in my covered porch. They would not get frosted there, they won't get much direct sun either. I can bring them out into the sun during the daytime and put them back in the evening. Obv, they won't be protected from cold temps, through I'd guess not much colder outside than in the garage? Will this plan work?

I've put mine in pots just by the back door a few weeks ago and they're coming up just fine. It's kind of protected by the winds and frost but they're not really covered like in a cold frame.

By the time the shoots have broken the surface and need light, it should be warmer.

Just watched a YouTube video from Cloudberry Flowers on potting up dahlias which you may find useful OP. (I only have seedlings but found this fascinating anyway).
