Reliable, good quality plants and delivery.

Oh, and forgot to add- there are LOADS of independent nurseries who sell online e.g. Hardy's plants, Middleton Nurseries (Salvias) although you may not find your entire wishlist in one place.

@AliceBlueGown

I just wanted to say please think carefully before ordering from Sarah Raven - I do not know what is going on but customer service is really poor. Have a look on trust pilot before you order - it tells a worrying story.
Sarah Raven were horrific when the pandemic seemed to clash with their warehouse move, but they seem to be well back on top of it now. I am getting nice plants, well packed, and if anything coming ahead of their planned delivery times.

Another vote for specialist nurseries too - have had some fabulous plants from Twelve Nunns, if they have anything you're after.

J parkers is my go to. Gardens4u are also quite good and Thompson and Morgan

rosiedeus · 06/05/2021 17:31

I've had excellent deliveries from Marshall's

Crocus have always been reliable and now choose them over Sarah Raven.
Claire Austin has also been a good find and I like the way the website suggests companion plants.
For anyone wanting Hostas or ferns try Bowdens. The slug resistant hostas really are and great quality plants.

I've had 2 deliveries from Sarah Raven now and they've been v good quality and well packaged. I only get the email to say they've been dispatched after it's turned up though. Must cost a fortune to send the orders out bit by bit.

I too would say to avoid gardening express. Spent £100 on 5 plants that arrived either potbound or a bare root stuffed in a pot with compost loose. Terrible quality and whilst on the cheaper side awful value for money.

Got some great roses from Cants of Colchester. David Austin good, Raymond Evison for Clematis are superb.

Iamnotavicar · 07/05/2021 17:43

Avoid Parker's, cheap for a reason! Dead plants, dying plants and plants without labels, and poor customer service

WobblyLondoner · 07/05/2021 19:16

Great thread. Crocus and Sarah Raven for me if I can't find something locally - but have also had good experience with Farmer Gracey & Beth Chatto. Also recently used the Big Plant Nursery to buy an unusual Fatsia - they were great.

hamstersarse · 07/05/2021 19:57

I just got 2 x trees from Gardening Express

I can't say they lived up to the 'Express' part but they are of decent quality

LydiaGwilt · 09/05/2021 18:53

Crocus is very good, also Taylors Clematis, Anglia Bulbs, and if you want a tree this place is great: www.ornamental-trees.co.uk/ - we've bought a weeping berberis and a small hawthorn in the last year. Also if you live near Ilkley, the Old Bridge nursery is tiny (not a garden centre)! but has really good value plants and a pretty good range.

I've been very happy with Secret Gardening Club. Good quality, decent sized ants and some interesting varieties.

I've used J Parker's for years. Mostly fine, bulbs very good. Occasional failures has been replaced.

Yougarden...again fine. I bought their "5 roses for £19.95" this year...not quite David Austin standard, but decent size and all growing away. They missed a tree peony out of the order, but when queried they were very speedy to send a replacement.
