Jasmine tips!

Hello. I don't have a garden. I have a very small balcony but I would like to grow jasmine (or other sweet smelling plant) up a trellis. How big does the pot have to be though? I don't have the space for a big pot. Any tips or alternatives. Btw I am in Italy and the balcony gets sun in the morning - perhaps too much!

It would need to be in the largest container you can manage. Balconies can get windy and that combined with sunshine will dry out a small pot really quickly. How about a long trough rather than a round pot?

Trachelospermum (star jasmine) has a wonderful scent and can cope with dry conditions too. You would need a large container if you don't want to be watering all the time.

Thanks. I think it would have to be a very small trough! 20 × 60 cm??

I have set up a drip watering system for pots before so if you can't have a big pot, that would be a solution.

You'll also need to think about feeding, top dressing with fresh compost, etc to give the plant enough nutrients if it's in a smaller pot.
