This may be a long shot but I thought that if anyone would know it would here.

When I was a young child my grandad used to grow these flowers that me and my siblings used to call 'rabbits'. When we went to visit he used to allow us to pick one off and you could put your fingers in them and they kind of opened/closed/moved?

Would love to be able to grow these this year as a nice reminder of him but have no idea what they were called. Any ideas?

Was it a snap dragon?

Snapdragons possibly?

namechangerforthisconfessionn · 20/03/2021 15:32

If you squeezed them at the sides you could make them 'talk' as well Grin

I've just had a google, they are very similar but it wasn't them.

My dad thinks they started with an N if that helps but he isn't 100% sure.

Could it be mimulus?

jobsagudden · 20/03/2021 15:38

I have such lovely memories of my grandma doing the same with snap dragons, there are quite a lot of different variants of them? Might be worth looking?

Flaunch · 20/03/2021 15:40

Aconitum?

Very poisonous if so.

Likeandsubscribe · 20/03/2021 15:40

Definitely sounds like snapdragons or antirhinums to me. They come in lots of different colours.

You can put your fingers in foxgloves but the other parts don't move (and they're toxic).

Thank you everyone, I'm not sure if it was them but I am going to have a trawl through google as they do look very similar and may well have just been a different type.

Same, one of my favourite childhood memories. His jelly and ice cream comes a very close second though. Grin

@florentina1

Antirrhinum?
My aunt has just confirmed that this is what they were, so you were all correct. My dad was a bit off with his 'begins with N' wasn't he. 😂

Perhaps your dad was thinking of Nemesia

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 20/03/2021 17:02

Maybe these?
Nemesia

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 20/03/2021 18:44

Toadflax?

NineOClockOnASaturday · 20/03/2021 19:30

If you’re sure it’s not snapdragon, I’d guess it’s nemesia.

BambooWhoosh · 20/03/2021 21:20

We had antirrhinums when I was little and called them bunny rabbits.

ShitInAPyrexDish · 21/03/2021 10:48

Thank you all for your help, I've just spoken to my dad and as soon as he heard antirrhinums he said that's it. So at least I now know what they were, now I just need to pick some.
