Should I trim off the skanky old leaves from my rose?

I have two roses - one has dropped all of its old leaves and is putting up lots of lovely new green shoots, and this one which has kept all its skanky looking old leaves and is starting to put out new red shoots. Can I trim off the horrible old leaves now without harming the plant?

Yes I think so! It can help prevent black spot.

Yes! Good time to prune roses now!

Oh marvellous, thanks! Don't want to prune it, just cut the actual horrible looking leaves off. I will do so.
