Magnolia Stellata Royal Star - how far away should I plant it from the house?

We have been given a potted magnolia, about 4ft tall at the moment and still spindly. We want to plant it in our front garden, but we’re unsure of how far away from the house it should be planted to ensure it’s roots won’t cause any problems (if they would? I’m a novice gardener and have no idea on how invasive/large the roots might get). Any advice would be appreciated!

According to the rhs their maximum height is 4m but that would take approx 20 years growth so I'd say you won't need to worry about root damage - we have one and it's only about as tall as me and still fairly spindly tbh and we've had it for years, they are lovely!

Ours is just 3 meters from the house. Never had an issue with it.

Our Magnolia stellata is nearly 30 years old it's about 3m high, about 3m across, and has 20cm dia trunk.

I'm much less worried about that than about the 20m beech tree that our neighbours have about 3m from our house Grin
