Hi all does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy bare root raspberries canes and strawberries plants online? None of my local nurseries have them. Thank you!

I always buy from Crocus, my local Wilko sell these and Lidl occasionally have them

Pomona fruits have a nice selection.

I just got some raspberry canes in my local poundshop. Only time will tell if they are worth the £1 but they've already started having some growth so I'm already quite impressed.

I bought a couple of raspberry plants from a pound shop 5 years ago, now there are over a dozen raspberry plants that have a couple of crops per year!

I bought Lidl strawberries and theyve never produced more than a smattering of fruit - possibly bad luck, I don't know. I'm currently waiting on some everbearing climbing strawberry bare roots from Thompson and Morgan.

I'm going to plant strawberries with Chives this year as I read they are good companions.

I bought both dirt cheap on eBay last spring lockdown and I was very pleased, usually I'd go to a garden centre.

King seeds, good quality, don't buy too many as raspberry canes grow like weed.

Does anyone have good tips on how to keep raspberry plants so they don't start sprouting up in the nearby lawn? And so they don't all fall over? I ended up just winding string round it but it looked pretty bad.

BebesChamber · 23/02/2021 22:12

@MrsJamin Pot them up. Raspberries like strawberries send up runners so unless you have dedicated fruit beds or they are in pots, this will happen.

Ashridge nurseries.
I have two posts with wires strung between them and tie the raspberry canes in.

I had raspberry canes from Ashridge which all either failed to grow at all, or leafed up nicely then died to some kind of virus. May have been bad luck of course.

I second Thompson and Morgan. Took a while for delivery but my strawberries and raspberries are in their third year now, excellent quality. I got so much fruit last year.

The only raspberry I have that doesn't sucker everywhere is a raspb/blackberry cross called Glen Coe - so delicious I would welcome another couple but it stays put.
