What direction is this garden facing? Trying to position garden office, patio and planting.

I'm moving into a new build later this year and I'm trying to start planning what to plant and where, and where to put a garden office.

Is this a North facing garden or an East facing garden? I'm thinking I may get sun in the far right corner in the afternoon - would you agree?

Assuming north is aligned to the vertical top of the picture, and the garden in question is 51? Then it is northeast facing - but - how open is the green space shown to the south east side?

I have a north east facing front garden, but it is very open to the south aspect and therefore gets a good amount of sun.

Working on the same assumptions as bearded dragon, in high summer the sun will rise at the top R corner, and you'll still get sun round to 1pm, at which point the sun will be coming from the bottom edge and the house will be beginning to cast shade on the garage wall. By about 4 o'clock you'll be in complete shade, with the sun coming from the bottom right corner. The sun will set about 9pm in the top L corner, so in late evening the far end of the garden should catch the sun.

You'll get a lot less sun in midwinter, when the sun rises in the SE and sets in the SW

@BewareTheBeardedDragon thanks. Yes it garden 51 and north is at the top.

The green space to the south is completely open and slopes down away from the house quite steeply.

@MereDintofPandiculation when you say the far end, do you think the right hand corner of the garden will have sun in the evening?

You may get a small patch sun in the evening but it will depend on your roof height, garden length, height if garage/trees etc. Our gdn is east facing and we get no sun after 5-6pm. As a rule sun comes up from South east or East South east. Sun from directly south at midday and sets in South west or west South west (assuming UK).

Yes - it's hard to say but my front garden only gets sun in the evening that comes down the wide passage that faces south west so catches the setting sun, so just a slice of evening sun. You may get the same down your side passage into the right hand side of the garden as you look out from the back of the house.

@MereDintofPandiculation when you say the far end, do you think the right hand corner of the garden will have sun in the evening? At midsummer, the sun will set in the NE, so just before sunset it will be shining at 45 degrees from top left to bottom right, so the strip beyond the garages will have sun.

At the equinoxes, the sun will be setting in the west, so the garage will be casting shade over the whole garden. In high summer the sun will be a bit higher as it reaches the west, so you may get a bit of sun over the garage, and, yes, this is most likely in the far right hand corner.

Wherever you put the garden office it will add to the shade of the garden at some stage of the day
