I find some areas of Mumsnet quite stressful at the moment due to strong opinions and covid related doom and gloom. Not the gardening section though.
I spend a lot of time daydreaming about my little, slightly wild, London garden and all the lovely things that are on order with various online nurseries or stashed on the decking for planting out soon. I’m definitely novice gardener and happily so and my criteria for plants are along the lines of hard to kill, colourful and weed suppression.

Right now I’m pondering where I should plant my verbena and how well my rose will respond to the cavalier pruning I have it at the weekend.
I’d love to hear what gardening related things other people are thinking about at the mo.

@meredintofpandiculation I wouldn't mind armfulls, I love it! It's for our front garden which has been a sort of nothingness, just a bare lawn with boring shrubs so I'm trying to make more of it by cutting some new beds. I'm now filling them with all the scrumptious cottage garden plants I really like and spending a ton of money-on it

I got delivery from Sarah Ravens too! Happy days

Which one is your absolute favourite rose from David Austin?

CheerfulBunny · 09/05/2021 23:33

@bumblebuzz123 'Summer Song' - can't wait for it to flower this year. They're all scrumptious though.

Ooh I just looked up Summer Song. It looks lovely, what an unusual colour! I'll add it to my ever expanding "David Austin Roses I Really Really Want to Grow" list.Wink

My garden is really coming to life now, despite the howling gales we've had recently. Lovely DH moved all my pots-with-new-growth to the slightly more sheltered side of the house, and we weighted down the plastic greenhouse with anything we could find ( compost bags, the wheelbarrow...). So far I think things have survived.

I "invented" a wind protection system for my new David Austin rose and a few other things. Seems to have done the trick! ( See picture)

But hasn't the weather been weird? Cold and dry, then very windy? Looking at last year's photos, everything is several weeks behind.

I’m in love with Munstead Wood but seems like I have to wait until November to get one.

BumbleBuzz123 · 10/05/2021 13:13

Fuzzy that looks amazing, I might try this for my Daphne that really seems to be struggling with these strong winds.

FuzzyPuffling · 10/05/2021 19:53

Thank you bumblebuzz. It is strangely effective! (I thought it would blow off, squash the plant etc, but no. It stayed put in 65mph gusts)

Oh I did a proper raid on the garden centre yesterday. Bought two, fairly large red robin bushes for in front of the pond to block the house across the road out and the motherlode of plants for my wall baskets and boat.

Managed to do all seven wall baskets and planted the red robins but still have a small hand cart full of bits for the boat planter and the weather today is absolutely awful. I've got a kitchen windowsill full of lupins, pansies and gaillardia as well that I was going to put in. So frustrating.
