Hello,

I have a clematis in a large pot. What could I put around the base of the pot as it's quite large & looks a bit empty if that makes sense

I put bedding plants such as Cosmos, lobelias or begonias around mine, but you could put Anything that would look attractive in winter.

What type of clematis is it? Don't forget you will probably need to prune it.

How much space do you have in the pot? You could lasagne plant some spring bulbs that flower at different times in the pot then some winter flowering bedding on top, like pansies, maybe a trailing variety. Cool Wave can bloom continuously throughout the entire 12 months of the year so is probably the best bet.

If you plant bulbs, I would avoid tulips as they are the least successful bulb for coming back year after year.

Creeping/trailing thyme (either lemon or normal) looks good all year round if you are happy with a mainly foliage plant (they have small white/purple/pink flowers in late summer). It has the added bonus of being edible.
