Buddleja cutting

Can you tell me please how to take a buddleja cutting (now) and root it successfully please?

Can’t wait until the spring as I’m moving house and can’t take the buddleja with me as it’s too big.

My plan is to take cuttings, strip bottom leaves, put in pot of compost and cover with a glass cloche.

Are they likely to root?!

I took small cuttings off mine before they started flowering.

Stripped off a couple of leaves and put in a glass of water on the inside kitchen window ledge for about a week to ten days.

They grew nice white roots and I planted them into compost in little tubs.

They are still on the windowledge while I decide what to do with them!

It's not ideal but it could work.

I would try both hardwood cuttings (normally late autumn) and softwood cuttings (normally spring)

I suspect, if you do 3 or 4 of each you will get at least one growing and could well get all of them. Buddleia is pretty forgiving.

Take non flowering shoots. Also, mine seeds everywhere, are there any seedlings?

Also, mine seeds everywhere, are there any seedlings? If it's a named variety, seeds won't necessarily come true

OOh I didn't know that. Makes sense now I think about it.

Sounds really silly but make sure you remember which way is 'up' and put in compost accordingly.

Can't you cut it right down then dig it up.

😱
It’s at least 10 feet tall!
No way, I’d need a chainsaw to hack it down!
