Buy a veg trug now?

I brought myself a veg trug a few months ago and I love it!!! I love it so much I want to buy another.

Is there any benefit to waiting for spring to get it? If I buy it soon and fill it with compost I could possibly grow a few little salad bits before winter (I have the covers for it etc) but am I wasting all that compost? Would all the goodness/ nutrients have been washed away by next spring? It's quite expensive to fill!

It would take me from now till spring to assemble one.Wink

The compost will degrade over winter if water gets into it. I don't think there's much to be gained from filling it now.

We bought veg trugs earlier this year, and a a couple of cold frames to sit on top so any autumn/winter veg would be a bit protected. I think there are a few things you can sow now, like chard and kale... or over winter like garlic. I'd have a quick google - it's our first time growing veg, so I'm not an expert :) but we're loving our trugs too! I've recently planted some fennel in one. Tried carrots, but I think the compost had too many nutrients, so they grew in crazy shapes, any tips on this? Good luck!

Thank you! Looks like I'll just have to be patient and wait until the spring.
