A friend recommended cut up citrus fruits. They adore them and prefer them to your plants, apparently.

Slug pellets work
Beer traps, citrus fruit, copper tape does not ime

We have the exact same problem. Tried many non harmless methods but resorted to slug pellets this week as literally the grass and pavement were covered with 40-50 slugs. 2 days in and does weem to have dramatically helped

Apparently you can get organic slug pellets in garden centres. They look like the blue slug pellets but consist if natural ingredients that slugs hate but they don't cause harm to birds, pets or hedgehogs.

Go out when it's dark with a torch and marigolds..Pick them all up and put in a container,or stamp on them.Do this for a few nights, you will get loads and also helps you know which plants they are after. Then you can put the white pellets down(these are apparently not dangerous to other animals) near the plants they like.
I do this with slugs and snails releasing them to landfil on bin day.

Slug pellets and slug pubs work. I used to make a big deal about a night time safari where my two children were given a torch, a bucket each and tongs and the winner was the one who collected the most slugs. Prizes were things like being able to stay up later at the weekend or their choice of movie.
Worked well at the beginning 😁 but in time they lost enthusiasm. You might get a month or two of cooperation.

Go out at midnight with a pot of salt.

Nematodes. Absolutely brilliant. Biological slug/snail killer.

They're microscopic worms that just eat the slugs, nothing else. Arrive in powder form, mix with water, pour it on. Job done.

I had an unbelievable amount of snails, it got them totally under control.

Instructions say reapply every few weeks - I usually do once in March/april, and maybe again towards the end of August.

Hello everyone!

I had the same problem and my mother told me that slugs adore weeds. I really lost my hope to get rid of them!
But after her suggestion I got rid off weeds with the help of a trimmer

The problem was solved: slugs disappeared!
You can’t imagine how happy I was!
I do hope you will find a solution too! Keep us up to date!

I used to go out early every morning with a spray gun of vinegar. Flick the slugs off whichever lovely flowers they were eating and spray them. Warning - it's revolting what happens to them. But very effective, and after doing it for a week or so the slug numbers were way down. Then I just went out every few days for a maintenance cull.
More recently, I've been planting lavender and it's doing a good job at keeping slugs at bay, haven't had to zap any lately.
