Ideas for garden arch please (photo) - year round interest?

Hi all. I'm installing a metal (large, plain) garden arch shortly and have an established clematis montanii that I hope to train over it. What else could I plant on the other side for year round interest? My montanii is lovely but quite short flowering season as the garden is quite exposed (I'm in Ireland). I'd really appreciate ideas or experience. Thanks.

Where in the garden is it going? Will there be planting space on either side of it?

Clematis Montana is beautiful but it's very vigorous and within a few years might swamp anything else that's planted with it.

I've trained an apple tree over an arch. It's fab.

There are some lovely winter flowering Clematis. I agree it’s a bit small for a Montana. They like to ramble up trees, we had one 30 ft growing through a silver birch tree.
I’d go for a climbing rose or a small growth rambler and a winter clematis. Or a summer clematis or a winter Jasmine.

Oh thanks so much for those suggestions. Here is where it is going (Sambucus_nigra on right will have to go first. The montanii is on right currently trailing along the fence (all flowers blown off so it's a bit hard to see).
