Olive tree help please!

We've had this olive tree for probably 5 years plus but I'm aware it's not the 'right' shape for an olive tree, it sometimes flowers but has never fruited. Is there a way of pruning it to shape it better and should it be done gradually or in one hit - all advice welcome please - TIA

Ooh that is a really pretty plant now. I am so pleased you got the secateurs out.

You cannot train olive stems - they are not like figs

but my instinct would be to leave it for a month or two and see which stem becomes dominant and then remove the others in turn ....

If you keep shaping the top, it will soon become clear where the energy is flowing.

The nice open stems make it a pretty feature on your decking now. Excellent Smile

I'd leave it as it is for a year now, and not prune any more off. See how it goes. The branches will be starting to produce the flowering shoots now anyway.

Mine had a load of olives on it last year, but they just don't ripen in our climate unfortunately.

I have no idea if mine ripen or not - the blackbirds steal them all Grin

Thanks @ListeningQuietly I'm pleased with it and will let it rest for a month or two as you say before doing anything else
