Weird isn't it! Half leaf half petal.

Anyone else?

Bulbs are odd anyway. half the petals are modified sepals rather than true petals (which is why botanically they're called tepals) So it probably doesn't make much to switch a leaf to having the coloring of a tepal.

Some plants do it deliberately - small flowers surrounded by brightly coloured modified leaves called bracts, which last a very long time - poinsettias and other spurges, hellebores, some Viburnums, some Cornus for example.
