Please can someone tell me what this is? Spring in new home, things are growing!

I thought it was some kind of Clematis but now I'm not so sure as it's growing (quickly) straight up.

Definitely a Clematis, could be a Montana variety. They do like their roots in the shade, so I’d pop a few stones , or half a broken pot around the base.
It will be interesting to see what the flowers are like.

I ve seen Passion flowers with similar leaves, so could be that too. I would try to encourage the bottom stems to edge out a bit horizontally so you get more of a spread, looks very healthy though. Must be fun in a new garden finding treasures!

Thank you, I've just been out and spread the stems out a bit, weaved them into the trellis. I hope it's a Clematis Montana, I like them but I'm a real novice gardener.

Yes, to Clematis, not sure whetehr it's montana. Hope it isn't - montana is too vigorous for that trellis.
