Where to buy shrubs and plants online?

AndWhatNext · 20/03/2020 23:12

As we'll be home for the foreseeable, I am going to use this as an opportunity to try and get my back garden looking decent.

Where is a good place online to buy plants and shrubs?

Thanks

I like Crocus, not cheap but a good selection. They also supply Waitrose Garden I believe. Worth looking out for offers and check the pot size as some are tiny and won’t provide instant impact.

Have a good google though and read reviews for different sites, I’ve bought some plants elsewhere.

I like specialist nurseries if you’re wanting something a bit different. Good ones I’ve used are:

Alpines
www.slacktopnurseries.co.uk/

Heucheras, tiarellas etc
www.plantagogo.com/

Primulas
penprimulas.com/epages/2b2cb972-e5a5-40a1-ace7-2a49e0d924da.mobile/?ObjectPath=/Shops/2b2cb972-e5a5-40a1-ace7-2a49e0d924da

I have never used them but they have the most amazing collection of interesting plants
crug-farm.co.uk/

And then for seeds, more cheap and cheerful

Sarah raven is good as well.

Banoffeecoffee · 22/03/2020 11:49

I have used YouGarden a few times and been happy with the plants. David Austen for roses. Not tried Sarah Raven but love the catalogue!

Ooh good question!

I want some fruit and veg but already started off as experience tells me I am incapable of getting seeds to grow.

Managed to get some strawberry's, rosemary and mint in the local garden centre before everything closed down but wary of buying online without knowing if I'm going to end up with several pots of dead plants arriving.

Spandang · 22/03/2020 12:27

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50

The plug plants from Thompson and Morgan did really well for us last year. Especially their black magic kale

clarebear99 · 22/03/2020 12:32

I second Thompson and Morgan. They had some really good sale offers to

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 22/03/2020 13:13

Thank you both

Madvixen · 22/03/2020 13:40

I've got a 20% off code for new Thompson and Morgan customers if anyone wanted to try it?

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 13:45

I'd love a code, I've been faffing about for a couple of days trying to decide what I need to buy. We always grow a few tomato plants but I'm going to try and use the time to get some raised beds going and plant a few more things in there. I'm going to have to order compost and top soil too I guess. I feel I'll be starting my own thread for advice soon!

Madvixen · 22/03/2020 13:56

@WoollyFoolly drop me a message and I'll send you it this afternoon

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 19:33

Thank you @Madvixen, I have just placed my order for umpteen seed packets, at least we will have a calming activity to do in the forthcoming weeks even if we don't get much produce!

wegoatdawn · 22/03/2020 19:37

@Madvixen if the code was multi use I'd appreciate it too?
I'm going to try strawberries in hanging baskets - I killed last years lot before they even got started Blush

Speminalium · 22/03/2020 19:41

These guys are amazing www.botanicaplantnursery.co.uk/ I wanted a quince tree and suddenly had to choose between squillions of different varieties!

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 19:46

If it's not @wegoatdawn I can give you my version of the code.

livingthegoodlife · 22/03/2020 20:11

I have spent a lot of the afternoon perusing the Sutton's catalogue & Thompson & Morgan online trying to work out where is the best place to order:

Mixed selection of annual plug plants (I'm happy to grow on)

Strawberry plants

Herb plants

Compost

I'd like a "one stop shop" where I can order it all.

Madvixen · 22/03/2020 20:31

@wegoatdawn it is multi use but @WoollyFoolly please use yours and then wveryone gets to benefit

Whatsnewpussyhat · 22/03/2020 20:34

QVC? They sell Thompson and Morgan too.

WoollyFoolly · 22/03/2020 22:05

@Madvixen I can't figure out where to get the code from?! I think there was a link when I placed my order but I can't find it now.

wegoatdawn · 22/03/2020 22:15

Not to worry @WoollyFoolly - maybe @Madvixen would after all?

Thanks Smile

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 22/03/2020 22:36

I’d live a code as well please?

MrsFriskers · 22/03/2020 23:16

Victoriananursery.co.uk is good for unusual stuff, and very clear instructions. Tried purslane a few years ago which was lovely, and have just spotted (available from May) - Tomtatoes - tomatoes and potatoes from the same plant Confused

Sweetpea1989 · 23/03/2020 16:28

I would use 20% code!

LadyJessica · 23/03/2020 16:52

This one is great for different lavender varieties: downderry-nursery.co.uk/
