Fancy a project this spring creating a raised bed for growing veg. Small space about 4' X 5' available. Any tips? Worth buying a flat-packed one?

Tatty grass underneath, should I cover it first to suppress?

Tatty grass underneath, should I cover it first to suppress? No point, if you have a thick wadge of soil on top the grass won't survive.
