What are you most excited about planting in Sept/Oct?

Just that really - looking forward to hearing!

My first year - so lots of bulbs and poppy and cornflower seeds

Have just redesigned & am in the middle of replanting my garden - so excited about everything! Have a tree & a clematis to plant tomorrow, some ferns on order from Fibrex next week and two bulb orders from Avon Bulbs & Sarah Raven in the pipeline! So looking forward to spring!

A holly tree, good for the birds & evergreen. I want winter trailing pansies for my hanging basket too.

I'm sowing a small wildflower meadow. If I can clear all the gravel that's in the way! Some Christmas box is on order and I'm going to look for some bulbs. Still thinking about a gap I have but it's too shady for everything I fancy.

I'm googling in bed and just discovered an autumn flowering camellia (rainbow)

So.... I had a mad moment and bought 100 spring bulbs! Christ. So that includes tulips, snowdrops, crocus and a couple of yellow and orange Iris. That's going to be a lot of planting.

I just sowed annuals on the steep bank (scatter at 3g/sqm)- I hope they'll not just get eaten by pigeons and that they actually fill the space- didn't seem like much to be honest!

I am desperately trying to make time to get all the bulbs I've bought in this month rather than too late like last year (100 wouldn't go far here ) but sadly I've got hedge cutting to finish etc first :*(

I wish my little wildflower meadow was done @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet, still levelling the ground and shifting a lot of gravel.

I've bought loads of bulbs with white flowers. Aliums, snowdrops, narcissi and tulips.

I'm going to plant bulbs in my pots. I have successional daffodils planned and I'm over planting with violets. I will also have small pots of crocuses.

Once my thunbergia dies off, I'm going to plant a clematis in its' place on the fence. Probably Prince Charles. The Montana my neighbours have put in is going over the top and back of the fence, so I don't have to find space for anything on that side.

I need a replacement for my low growing campanula - it looks great for two weeks and then dies off looking straggly at the front of the bed. I chopped it back but it didn't really do a second flush, this is its second underwhelming year, I think it's in the wrong place. The replacement needs to be something blue or blue-purple. It's a bit shady and whatever I put in there ideally would trail over a wall. Vinca minor?

I’ve just ordered £60 of bulbs. I could have easily spent double that but thought it might have been slightly ott. I lost bed to extend the drive to fit 3 cars & also lost a bit of lawn widen a bed so that needs some bulbs adding in & the remaining bed needs restocking.

We’re currently in the planning phase of putting some beds in in our back garden too. We just had a patio & lawn laid when we moved in as funds were tight but we both find it dull & have no love for it any more. First up will be a man with a digger though as it desperately needs levelling (we had a water main burst in the garden 5 years ago & the water company didn’t make good the damage very well).

The ants invaded my new heather planter. I’ll have to buy poison now.

Where did you get your wildflower meadow seed? I keep changing my mind and I've never bought and seeds online (new gardener).

I’ve planted lots of spring bulbs, allium, anemones, ranunculus and a Viburnum Eve Price.

I would like to direct sow some seeds. I’ve bought poppy seeds, but what else can I direct sow now please? Nothing yellow, orange or red, please. White, pink, purple, blue all welcome.

Hellebores, I buy a lot from a third generation local nursery, everything grown there, their hellebores will be ready in two weeks and they have got some unusual varieties.

Can you recommend any that are truly happy in shade @LifeOfBox. I love hellebores.

This one has tripled in size in the last year chocolate. I had to move it to the really shady side of my garden as it wasn't happy at all.

I've since read that they're toxic to cats and dogs. Do you know how true this is, and when it says that a plant is toxic to pets, does that mean that they would have to be in contact with the plant? Sorry, I'm completely clueless!

I have a family of homeless cats in our overgrown field behind our house, a dog who visits me daily I share custody of him with my neighbour and one hedgehog, who lives in the hedge near where I planted the hellebore

Yes, they are toxic Always, so are many other plants. They would have to ingest them or chew them.

I think it's highly unlikely that they would do that!

The only thing I’d avoid for cats is lilies, I just wouldn’t risk it.
