Lawn mower help

We have a garden approx 30 x 100 feet.
Bought a super duper petroleum mower which we cannot manage at all 😢
Think I'll have to get another one what would be best?
Currently our neighbours son helps us but I feel he is tiring of this and I hate being dependant on others

is your petrol mower too big? I would have thought most modern mowers were easi ish to use.

What do you mean you can't manage it? Starting it? Manoeuvring it?

I've had a petrol lawnmower for 15 years, and it still starts up on the first pull if you pump prime it properly. And it has a motor that pulls itself along if you pull the handle properly. I can't believe a new petrol mower would be harder to manage. The hardest bit for me was getting the fucker in and out of the shed.

I did buy a smallish rechargeable one for the garden path, which is fab and i can pop that in the shed as it is light and nimble. but it doesn't have the auto push so it is harder to push than the petrol one.

Neither me nor my husband can start the bloody thing
He's got a frozen shoulder I'm 5 feet tall and can't seem to pull the cord the required length
Feeling even more pathetic now

IF you've tweaked everything you need to first eg pressed to bring petrol through, got the correct switch on I think at 5 feet you should be able to do it, maybe standing on a step. A lot of these things are practice so if you do it regularly (you could do it even if you aren't needing to cut the grass) you will get the hang of it. I had an old one which needed a good hard, long pull but the newer ones didn't, just a half turn of the engine was enough to start it.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 15/09/2019 08:48

Are you priming it properly?

Onesmallstepforaman · 21/09/2019 16:21

Slowly pull the cord till you feel more resistance, let it retract and then give it a good pull. This is the compression stroke and is the point where the petrol is most likely to ignite. Only keep petrol in the tank you will use on that time, unleaded goes off after a month or so.
