Hazelnuts

My little nut tree is producing its first crop. The shells are hard but haven't much colour yet. Should I be picking them or waiting till they fall ?

I think ou need them to start colouring. While still green the kernel is still milky and not properly formed. The problem we have is that the squirrels tend to get them before they have properly coloured.

@macshoto , thanks for the reply. We don't have any resident squirrels so I'll leave them a bit longer before picking them.
