Hi there, I’m making up an area in my garden of Heuchera and Hosta in pots, as I love the colours. Some of them will go in either full sun, or shade.
What other plants will break it up a little? I also have a large Acer tree in the shaded area.
Also, how do you lift and divide the Hosta?

Many thanks in advance 💐

Among our hostas and heucheras we have acers, sedum and hebes, also a blue soft-needled low spreading evergreen shrub, whose name I forget but it's very Japanese looking and goes well with the acers.

Can't advise on lifting and dividing hostas - never get the chance - the snails do it for us!

We turned 2 pots of Hostas into 8 pots of Hostas last year!
Tipped the (very congested) Hostas out of their pots, cut each into 4 with a spade and re-planted in new pots.
Seriously thinking about cutting each of them in half at the end of this season.

Thanks for your replies 🙂.
As far as lifting and dividing, I’ve got two that need sorting. They are I think very congested, thanks for the idea of how it’s done.
I hope I can get them out of the pots!

I’ll have a look at Acers and Hebes also.
I’m looking forward to getting it done.
