Thunder flies, Thrips, Tiny Bugs of Satan.

To those of you lucky enough to be inundated with these tiny, itchy little hell beasts, as I currently am, (live near fields) can anyone here recommend an insect repellent that works to stop them coating every inch of my skin/hair/eyeballs etc..? Killing them is not an option, and I doubt even possible, but I have had to shut the windows and can’t even go outside into the garden currently as it is unbearable!..

I am willing to try ANYTHING.

Oooh, I have some upstairs, I know it works for midges but had no idea it would work for thrips?

I dont think it works on thrips...but if it does let me know. It's really awful today. Itch, itch itch.
