What is this knobbly bit on the bottom of my tree?!

I’ve got a little oak seedling that I grew from an acorn, and it’s been outside for over a year now and doing ok...
I recently repotted it into something bigger to encourage growth, but with all this rain the soil has compacted a lot and now there’s some roots and a big bumpy bit showing. Is this just the remains of the acorn seed?
And is it ok for me to cover this up with another layer of compost on top, or is there a risk of it rotting and causing damage if it’s covered?

Yes, probably the acorn remains. I think you could safely add more compost to the top (looks as though roots are exposed?), but don't swamp it.
