Have I sold 16 people a pig in a poke?

Name changed as this is very outing.
The facts: Saw YouTube video about growing tomatoes from a slice of tomato, had some v tasty cherry ones from supermarket so planted 3 slices with low expectations. 3 weeks later, 54 seedlings, transferred to larger pots expecting to lose half, 52 survived - nearly all grew looking super healthy - had 49 tomato plants. Couldn't possibly use all so planted some, gave away some and had 28 tomato plants left. Got the bright idea of selling them on our local group for 50p each - sold all bar 3 which I offered some to my much older, much wiser chum and he said " Oh, no thanks as they are probably F1s so won't produce anything". Have I sold 16 people a pig in a poke? Never mind friends who think I am a great grower Blush

They are all over here (ladybirds) on IW. I have Japanese wine berries coming out of everywhere Dd can't eat them fast enough. I will have to start freezing them

BooseysMom · 14/07/2019 19:56

@elephantoverthehill.. so you've got all the ladybirds have you?!! Grin i don't blame them for staying with you tbh

Wow Bob mine are no where near.

PiggyPokkyFool · 14/07/2019 21:26

Lots of ladybirds here in our area of London - only outnumbered by the bees enjoying the raspberry and blackberry flowers and buzzing round the passion flower. Hibiscus is a mass of white, pink and my favourite purple flowers. We put up our new Bee Hotel today (or Air bee and bee as I am calling it - part of my birthday gift from work) and already had some interested bees looking.
I must confess that I have no idea what Japanese wine berries are and I am off for a google - well done growers x

Yes @BobTheDuvet is right @BooseysMom - you may get more than you think - fingers crossed for you.
Well done on the peas - my first and only effort made me think Mr Birds Eye did a stonking job but reading your suggestion I think I might plant some more mange tout as ours has been lovely and I would like some more. Three(!) french beans yesterday - there are four of us so hopefully another few today so no-one is left out.
Sequential sowing is something I forget too in the tiny space I call a garden.

Thanks Bob & Piggy..

Re. ladybirds, I do think being out in the sticks has affected insect numbers as there are lots of farmer's fields around us which will be sprayed. It can actually be better for wildlife in cities now..

There are flowers on my potato plants now with a visiting bee! They were planted in May and should be ready to be unearthed soon
Piggy..i'd def get some more peas planted. Still plenty of summer left and we may be in for an extended summer seeing as it was a terrible spring

What a lovely thread. I haven't planted any fruit or veg this year but I'm enjoying looking at everyone else's.

Piggy I am freezing raspberries, japanese wine berries, blackcurrants and the last of the gooseberries. Arrgh how to get enough freezer space for the beans and courgettes.

... and it’s practically Day of the Triffids in the next bed.

How’s everyone else getting on?

One late courgette and one cucumber bob. I’ve repeatedly been surprised by what’s popped up after planting, think labels are in order next year.

Torrential rain showers for the last 36 hours in London but dry and sunny today so my mission is to get pics and post properly. My cucamelons flooded but are drying out nicely now. Well done on your crops.

Making the most of the space alpine strawberries, cucamelons and beans through the hibicus plants - squash it all into my tiny space.

@EssentialHummus and @BobTheDuvet and anyone else that is still around - the tomatoes have over 300 green ones. Not bad from one slightly squashed past its best cherry tomato that I decided to put in a pot rather than the wormery.
