Anyone lucky enough to have success growing Aster from seed?

I bought some beautiful types as I really wanted them for cut flowers on my allotment. I sowed a whole tray and got... 1.

And it looks pretty sickly.

Sowed in seed compost, heated mat, propagator lid in a south facing window.

I’m generally good at growing seeds but I’m totally heartbroken about these little guys!

It was Aster Appleblossum if that is relevant.

I haven't grown that variety but I do know that firstly, their germination can be erratic and secondly, that I have been guilty of giving them too much heat. If I were you I'd buy another packet/sow some more, put a cover them but leave the propagator unheated. This has worked for me.

@handslikecowstits (jokes name)

I do have an unheated glass greenhouse - would you recommend putting them in here (more sun than the window but colder at night)?

Really wanted these to work!

Thanks

They do need some heat but not south facing windowsil with lid and heat.

The windowsil and lid should be fine. I would perhaps move them off the windowsil at night but IMO a minimum of about 15c usually does the trick.

Mine are doing quite well so far. I've just planted some of them in the ground and some are still in pots just deciding where to put the rest.

@rezcowgirl any tips? Or freebies!

What was your germination setup?
