Water feature etiquette

I have a new water feature and wondered if you left it on permanently or if you just switch it on when you are outside. I don’t want to annoy my neighbours with my raining feature!

A neighbour has a water feature which is a bit annoying because it sounds like a tap left on. When we visited Chatsworth a few years ago I was interested to learn that their famous Cascade (stone steps over which water flows) was carefully designed to be irregular so that the water made a natural, pleasant gurgling sound. They knew this stuff 300 years ago!

It's a bit annoying because it's too strong, as senua says. I did wonder if there was a way to alter the pressure - i'll have to email the Devonshires and ask how you do it Grin
