My rose buds are COVERED in little white bugs. That seems like bad news to me and all of a sudden, the hundreds of ladybirds that frankly plagued my door frames all winter, have bloody disappeared! I NEED YOU NOW!

Same here - lots of greenfly on the roses and I’m waiting for the ladybirds to come to the rescue!

Is there some kind of rain dance we can do to entice the ladybirds?

Ha! Suspect the nearest equivalent of a rain dance is buying them mail order!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 05/05/2019 08:40

This is ridiculous though. I don't need to BUY them, they WERE everywhere! Selfish little things.

I had one on my green bin yesterday, shall I send him your way 😉

They're at our house, but they're not eating the greenfly on my chives!

Harebellsies · 05/05/2019 11:27

Did you tidy up last autumn? Then they had nowhere to nest and rest in your garden and went elsewhere. Maybe leave it messier next time, tidy up in the spring when hibernation ends.
If you buy ladybirds by mail order you dont get native ones, but other ones, which are also useful but outcompete the native ones.

This lot sell native ones.

I thought it was the ladybird lavae that eat the little green bugs?

MrsBertBibby · 05/05/2019 18:17

Nope, both adults and larvae like to munch on aphids.
