Are these plants I want in my garden - id needed

Hello,
Please help me identify these plants. I had a mixed seed packet that they could have come from or they might just be weeds (don't mind if they're pretty weeds - just want to know what they are!)

Pretty sure they are all weeds look like the annoying little buggers that spring up in my patio

Knittedfairies · 29/04/2019 20:20

Possibly willowherb.

hopeishere · 29/04/2019 20:22

The third one looks like a wallflower.

motherforceawakens · 29/04/2019 20:33

Sugarhouse - they might well be! I'm torn between pulling them up and seeing what they do just incase our seed scattering worked.
Knittedfairies - thanks. I'll take a look at willow herb leaves. It sounds like that's one I wouldn't want to stay.
Hopeishere - thank you. The leaves are greyish and slightly furry.

The third one looks like forget me not to me so could definitely have come from your scattered packet. www.google.co.uk/search?q=forget+me+not+leaves&client=safari&hl=en-gb&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiX94ruh_bhAhU5VBUIHbKyAYcQ_AUoAXoECAwQAQ&biw=414&bih=622

The first one looks remarkably like basil.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/04/2019 20:51

Yes it does look like basil, you will be able to tell by smelling it.
I love forget me nots, they will spread if you leave them

wowfudge · 29/04/2019 20:55

Basil doesn't have leaves with serrated edges though. The third is not a weed. None of them is forget me nots. The middle is definitely a weed I'd say.

NanTheWiser · 29/04/2019 21:45

ALL weeds.

motherforceawakens · 29/04/2019 21:47

Thanks all.
The first's leaves are also too big and long to be basil I think (will give them a sniff in the morning to be sure).
Wowfudge - any ideas what the third may be if not forget me not?

Oh Nanthewiser, just seen your post. Are you sure!?

I agree that the third could be erysimum (wallflower). Can you wait to see if it flowers?

mrwalkensir · 29/04/2019 22:09

First might be fireweed. First sign of pink flowers, pull it...

motherforceawakens · 29/04/2019 22:15

I've just googled fireweed and found a plant that looks virtually identical - think you might be right mrwalkensir
Thanks brumblebee, yes I could wait.

Fireweed is the US name for willowherb...

wowfudge · 29/04/2019 23:12

The third looks like a wallflower to me.

"A weed is simply a flower someone decides is in the wrong place".

StrippingTheVelvet · 29/04/2019 23:24

I should add I know absolutely nothing about gardening and the quote is from Call the Midwife so maybe don't put too much store in that.

EBearhug · 29/04/2019 23:30

I think the third is forget-me-not. It can self-seed and grow like a weed, but it's pretty, and easy to weed out if it's somewhere you don't want. I'd leave it, at least till it's finished flowering.

On nd you, I quite like rosebay willowherb when it's in flower, though I was weeding the damned stuff out earlier.

Chocmallows · 29/04/2019 23:38

I pull similar up when they grow, look like weeds.
Why not try plug plants as they are easier to start off and you can tell they are plants more easily?

Harebellsies · 30/04/2019 06:13

The third looks like asters to me (tall daisies, perennial) which would give you lovely colour in late autumn when everything else has finished, and provides last nourishment for bees.
To be honest, none of them look like weeds. Why not wait till they flower? You can pull them out before they set seed and no harm done.

NanTheWiser · 30/04/2019 11:05

#3 isn't forget-me-not, and pretty sure it's not erysimum, you could let it flower for a definite ID, but I still think it's a weed.
