Hello. Could anyone tell me what this plant is - they grow every year in our somewhat neglected London garden, and take over a whole section. Some of them grow orange flowers later in the year I think. Thanks for any advice. I don't really know if they are a weed or not!

Crocosmia?

Are the orange flowers like this?
If so, not necessarily a weed ( a weed is only something growing where you dont want it to) But they do spread quite a lot, so may need thinning out.

Definitely crocosmia!

Wow! Thank you, yes the flowers are like that. They are pretty, but only a small percentage of the plants actually seem to flower. Now I know what it is I can research it. Thank you very very much!

I was going to say Crocosmia but PP got there first.

If they don't flower, dig up the bulbs, split and replant and hopefully they should next year.

In the autumn dig them up and you will see a long row of corms. Break of the bottom ones. The replant the plants with some good quality compost and they will flower better.

Great tip, thanks @Sackrifice
